Every summer for the last ten years, youth in the Spoke'n Revolutions cycling program lead a bike tour of just over 700 miles and study history and environmental education along the way. The program is unique in that it combines educational experiences with the demanding physical, mental, and emotional challenges of cycling great distances and living cooperatively within a group.

This year, due to Covid-19, Triangle Bikeworks can't safely do an in-person summer tour. So, in the same spirit of resiliency that we seek to cultivate in our young riders, we are taking the 2020 bike tour online!"

This year's virtual tour will be 4-days of 1-hour historical presentations and discussions based on the people and events along the Gullah-Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, a federal National Heritage Area, that stretches from Wilmington, NC to St. Augustine, FL. The Gullah-Geechee are direct descendants of West African slaves brought into the United States around the 1700's.

Mr. Hicks says, "we think this is a great way to share with the community what it's like to be a Spoke'n Revolutions rider on tour, minus the long days in the saddle! We hope the virtual tour will inspire both youth and adults to discover more of the untold history of people of color and show the community some of the unique, experiential learning that happens in our cycling programs."
