Rock Church Hosts Safety & Security Online Workshop

SAN DIEGO - June 29, 2020 - On Wednesday, July 1 at 9AM PST, the Rock Church's Safety and Security Team will host a special COVID-19 Training Workshop. This free, online workshop is open to anyone and will focus on the relevant topics of leading teams during crisis, along with safety strategies for the reopening of faith-based organizations.

This special COVID-19 workshop will address issues facing today's houses of worship of all faiths in the areas of COVID-19 Emergency Operations Planning, Cyber Security, Moving Forward - Reopening Plans and Developing Community Partnerships. According to the National Organization of Church Security and Safety Management, violent crimes occurring at churches trended up 13% in the last 10 years and COVID-19 has death tolls in the U.S. hitting over 121 thousand. It's evident that a multifaceted approach to safety is at the forefront of religious leaders' minds throughout the country.

"Safety is a paradox: the more it succeeds, the less it's perceived to be needed. This is even more true in the digital landscape of church today." Mike Diggs, Rock Church Safety Director.

The online workshop will feature multiple panel interviews with speakers including San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit, Torrey Pines Church Pastor Mingo Palacios, Rock Church Safety Director Mike Diggs, Rock Church Facilities Manager Shawn Morrison, Bayview Baptist Security Lead Kirk Guarian, High Desert Church Security Director Todd Kliewer and, from Secure Smart, Rusty and Sam Sailors, cyber security experts and several other speakers. The panel will talk about safety methods for organizations that are working remotely and hosting digital church services.

The Rock Church's Safety and Security Team has been hosting the San Diego National Church Safety and Security Conference here in San Diego for the past 9 years. The conference was created to help educate and serve as a resource for other churches, synagogues and mosques, providing tools needed to help make houses of worship as safe as possible. With the unexpected outbreak of COVID-19 and the limitations of social gatherings according to CDC health guidelines, the 2020 San Diego National Church Safety and Security Conference will be postponed until 2021.For updates on the 2021 conference visit www.sdsecurityconference.com.
