How To Maintain Your UV Cured or Wax Oiled Hardwood Flooring

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. -- These maintenance instructions apply to most UV Oiled and Wax Oiled hardwood flooring. Check with your flooring representative or manufacturer to confirm this process.

Over the past few years oiled hardwood flooring has become exceedingly popular in the United States. The idea of never having to refinish a hardwood floor, enhancing the finish as you clean, and being repairable by the homeowner are all great selling points. But the maintenance is much different than a polyurethane floor; more work and required to keep the wood protected.

One of the main differences with oiled hardwood floors is that you have to oil the floor after it is installed. There are exceptions and you will have to consult your representative to know if your particular floor needs to have a coat of oil applied after installation. It is crucial that you find out and follow the instructions.

Most oiled floors will work with the WOCA Maintenace Kit. The WOCA Maintenance Kit includes paste, cleaner, and soap.

After Installation: Once your UV or Wax Oiled floors have been installed you will need to use the WOCA Maintenance Kit to finish the job. The Maintenance Paste will leave your floor hardwearing and easy to clean and maintain. Maintenance Paste or WOCA Master Oil is also used for annual maintenance. Maintenance can be done locally, by hand or polishing machine (buffer).

1. Clean - Mix the WOCA Wood Cleaner to specifications. Use two buckets (cleaner and rinse water). Scrub/Mop floors clean. Rinse and wipe excess water. Let floor dry (~8 hours).

2. Apply - After floor has dried it is ready for WOCA Maintenance Paste or WOCA Master Oil. Apply thin coats of paste or oil with polishing pad. Use floor polishing machine for larger areas.

3. Polish - Continue polishing paste or oil into the wood until surface is saturated and uniform.

4. Finish - Use new cloth to wipe dry or polish with new pad. There should not be any excess paste. Continue until the entire floor is finished. If using a polishing machine the surface is pre-hardened after 4 hours. Hand polishing takes 24 hours before it is ready for use.

Regular Cleaning: WOCA Natural Soap may be used for the cleaning and maintenance of all known oil systems. Natural soap will protect against dirt and penetration of liquids.

1. Mix the WOCA Natural Soap to specifications. Use two buckets (cleaner and rinse water).

2. Scrub/Mop floors clean with minimum amount of water necessary. Leave soap water on floor to dissolve dirt.

3. Use clean bucket of water. Remove dirty soap water from floor with mop or cloth. Use as little water as possible.

Tips: Very dirty floors should be cleaned with WOCA Wood Cleaner and then WOCA Natural Soap. Heavily worn areas should be maintained with WOCA Maintenance Paste Or Master Oil AFTER cleaning with wood cleaner.
