Fourth annual Mariachi Festival, Saturday Sept. 5 at the National Steinbeck Center

Salinas, CA – The National Steinbeck Center is proud to announce the fourth annual Mariachi Festival, which takes place from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, September 5. A premium tequila tasting precedes the festival from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Center, which is located at 1 Main St., Salinas.

Tickets are $100 for the festival, which includes the premium tequila tasting, and $50 for the tequila tasting alone. Tickets are available at the National Steinbeck Center bookstore, located at 1 Main Street, Salinas, CA. (831) 775-4721. Store hours are 10 AM – 5 PM daily.

A day-long celebration of Mariachi music and culture, the festival features internationally acclaimed mariachi bands, food, authentic decorations, and a premium tequila tasting. Steinbeck's Mexican films, The Forgotten Village, The Pearl, and Viva Zapata--each featuring Mariachi music--will be shown at 10 AM, 1PM, and 3PM respectively. The tasting will include brands such as Reserva de Familia and Don Julio 1942. The estimated value of tasting all these exclusive tequilas, if purchased individual, would exceed $1700.

At last year’s Mariachi Festival there was special presentation by Lupita Infante, niece of Pedro Infante. This year’s festival features an equally exciting treat; Mariachi Femenil Tecalitlan, one of America’s few all-female Mariachi bands, will perform as well as Mariachi Tradicion, and Mariachi Mexicanisimo

Proceeds from the Mariachi Festival support programs at the National Steinbeck Center—including the Inspirational Speakers series, the Steinbeck Young Authors Program, and the Steinbeck/Ricketts Institute—as well as the Alisal Rotary Club. The 4rd Annual Mariachi Festival will celebrate the heritage, music, arts and beauty of Mexico.

The Mariachi Festival is produced by Ricky Cabrera for the National Steinbeck Center.
