Revolutionizing How We Party, One Pair of Headphones at a Time

NEW YORK -- In the heat of the summer months, and the thick of wedding season, one New York-based company is changing the game – for good. Party Headphones is changing the way party-goers get down, infusing celebrations across the country with an entirely new way of getting their groove on. Although the short-lived history of silent disco dates back to a groundbreaking concert performed by the Flaming Lips at South by Southwest in March 1999, it has only recently began to blossom in popularity. In 2015, silent disco has become a household name, propelled by companies like Party Headphones. Their wireless headphones have enabled excited party-goers to forgo the traditional ear-blasting music of ordinary musical performances – allowing instead for a fun and fresh new way to enjoy music. In no venue are these headphones more appreciated than wedding celebrations, where guests can dance the night away without ever disturbing the neighbors.

The term silent disco came to be used for these wireless headphone parties at the 2005 Bonnaroo Music Festival, a 4-day multi-stage camping festival held in Tennessee. Silent disco was the perfect way for music fans to listen late into the night without waking other campers. The technology itself is fairly simple and straightforward – a plug-and-play system allows any electronic device with a headphone jack or audio input to connect to the Party Headphones[MR1] Transmitter. The applications are nearly endless, with DJ mixers, laptops, iPods, iPads, and even TVs capable of hooking up to ignite any party.

Silent discos have been invading the wedding scene too, with numerous brides and grooms opting for this hip new way to dance the night away. With the use of the on-site transmitter, competitions have erupted – pitting the newlywed husband and wife against each other in a battle for the best playlist. Guests can effortlessly switch between the two channels, and decide for themselves who is the master DJ. Three years and 250 awesome parties later – and we are just excited to be right in the middle of this music revolution. We will continue to grow as this ever-expanding concept does[MR2] , and we cannot wait to see what the future holds.”

Party Headphones was founded in 2012 in a Cornell classroom as a start-up that collaborates with event professionals to hold silent disco events that mesh with their vision.
