Effective Reading Specialist Rejected as Summer Tutor for School District

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Mrs. Nancy Meacham-Cole espoused her teaching credentials and tutoring success with a particular school district in order to get on their summer tutoring list.

“Oh, no, our tutors aren't supposed to teach the children anything. Tutors are simply to maintain the skills that the child has already learned over the summer,” the Chapter I Reading Specialist exclaimed.

“Wouldn't it be in the best interest of the students, their parents, and the school district to make the children the best they can be?” Mrs. Cole queried.

“If you did that, it would make our teachers look bad,” responded the Reading Specialist.

Infuriated at the political nature of educational manipulation, Nancy Meacham-Cole, sole proprietor of Corrective Reading Institute and a certified reading specialist since 1972, is fighting back with an affordable way for all parents and teachers to remove obstacles to their student's learning success.

Corrective Reading Institute is pleased to announce its almost free ($.99) one hundred twenty-four page diagnostic test battery complete with an answer key for teachers and parent teachers. “Prescription for Reading Success”, as this test battery is called, is immediately downloadable at http://www.correctivereadinginstitute.com/site/1320235/

The test battery includes diagnostic testing in the areas of auditory discrimination, phonics, spelling, sight words, syllabication skills, reading accuracy, and reading comprehension for grades 1-12.

If the tests demonstrate below grade level performance in any area, the teacher/parent teacher will be guided to the proper remedial materials available inexpensively at Corrective Reading Institute's web site.

Private tutoring using the plan outlined in Prescription for Reading Success has resulted in an average improvement of 3.5 years within 10 weeks of biweekly instruction with daily homework. Small groups of between 8 and 14 students have experienced an average improvement of 2 years within 7 months of daily instruction five days a week for twenty minutes daily.

"I am convinced that, as a nation, our reading scores would greatly improve if all students were taught using 'Prescription for Reading Success.' State budgets would also significantly decrease as educational expenses for reading would be minimized. There would no longer be a need for reading, spelling, and writing textbooks - just an expanded school library where students can read appropriate books for their level and interests."
