NEW YORK -- #NYCAnthem, nominated at The 9th Annual OutMusic Awards for Hip-Hop Song Of The Year, has just been released as a single on iTunes, along with a world premiere music video on MTV.com
The hip-hop shoutout anthem of the Five Boroughs has recently been challenged by fans as the answer to Taylor Swift's "Welcome To New York".
Fittingly, the artist and producer of the single, DJ InfTheTurnUp (aka Infinite), was born and raised in Harlem. During her interview for the January 2015 issue of Diversity Rules Magazine (of which she is the cover story), she explains "I wrote the anthem to represent New York City. We were the face of hip hop for a long time, but seem to have lost it recently. It's time to get our swagger back."
The #NYCAnthem track debuted as the lead single on the hip hop compilation Coast2Coast: The Best Of New York in December 2014, and was serivced to djs and record pools the same month. It has since shown up on various hit pick lists, and ultimately as a Best Hip Hop song nomination at The OutMusic Awards. The ceremony will be held on January 19, 2015 at Town Hall in New York City. The celebration of LGBT recording artists and their music will be hosted by the Emmy nominated televsion series "Orange Is The New Black" co-star Lea DeLaria.
The single is distributed under the label Pathway Records / 34 Whale Music, which is co-owned by DJ InfTheTurnUp and singer/actor Lovari (whose #1 iTunes single "Still In Love" was produced by her).
