Sinag Microfunds holds Dreams on Canvas Art Exhibit/Fundraiser for Disadvantaged Students

QUEZON CITY, Philippines -- In line with its goal of helping disadvantaged students, Sinag Microfunds, will hold Dreams on Canvas, an art exhibit and the organization’s first fundraising event. The exhibit opens on May 24 and will run until June 24 at the UP Bulwagan ng Dangal located in the Main Library of University of the Philippines-Diliman.

"This event presents a precious opportunity to bring home an artwork by emerging artists, while promoting access to education among poor Filipino youth," explained Sheena Jamora, lead founder and executive director of Sinag Microfunds.

Sinag Microfunds is a non-profit organization that supports financially struggling students in the Philippines through microloans, so that they may be able to accomplish the quintessential dream of every young Filipino: to obtain a college degree and uplift her family from poverty.

Founded on a threefold goal, Dreams on Canvas aims to raise funds for Sinag’s student microlending program, raise community awareness about this cause, and promote the work of artists from the University of the Philippines. Proceeds will go to a tuition loan fund for college students in need.

The exhibit, which serves as an avenue to help alleviate the current state of Philippine education through art, will be featuring the work of local artists such as Abi Dayacap, Ang Gerilya, Archie Oclos, Bheng Densing, Gab Lopez, Jether Amar, Juan Carlos Soriano, Juju Gosingtian, Karl Fredrick Castro, Katrina Pallon, Kendrick Bautista, Piya Constantino, and Rommel Joson, among many others.

Opening cocktails will be served on May 24 from 2 to 5 pm where the artists, students, art enthusiasts and supporters are invited. During the opening event, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase their artwork of choice which may be claimed at the end of the month-long exhibit.

Get your art fix at Dreams on Canvas and not only will you take part in supporting local art, you will also help fund the dreams of financially struggling students
