Evangelical Press Association Prepares for Landmark Convention: A Must Attend for Christian Media

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Colorado Springs, CO– Evangelical Press Association staff and board members enter the final days of preparation for EPA’s 2014 annual convention. The convention kicks off on Sunday evening, May 4, which launches two days of fast-paced workshops and activities within the context of professional networking.

What makes this convention a landmark event? “We’re returning to Southern California for the event and local expertise has shaped the presentation schedule through creative options,” said D’Arcy Maher, EPA’s Executive Director, “The workshop line-up is one of the more unique in recent years.”

Plenary speakers, Susan E. Isaacs (http://susaneisaacs.com/) and Erwin Raphael McManus (http://www.erwinmcmanus.com/) each provide a unique perspective as both are popular interview subjects in evangelical periodicals. Phil Cooke (http://philcooke.com/) anchors the workshops with his provocative and instructive session, The 10 Biggest Mistakes Christians Make in the Media (http://www.evangelicalpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/0...). Kenny Irby from Poynter Institute and Manny Garcia of the Miami Herald bring real-world examples and expertise to the seminars. Local faculty from Christian universities round out the workshop presenters and provide best practice instruction from convergence journalism.

Student journalists will participate as delegates throughout the convention while also having the option of participation in a deadline contest during the event. EPA announces the student scholarship during the annual business meeting at the convention, which is a highly anticipated award.

Not only is the convention programming at a motivating level of excellence, but sponsors and exhibitors have partnered with EPA to bring enhancements to the convention.

“Attendees at the EPA convention also get exposed to some great companies and organizations who provide products and services to the periodical industry,” said Convention Chair Lamar Keener, publisher of Refreshed magazine (http://refreshedmag.com/). “They’ll even get to preview some upcoming faith-friendly Hollywood movies.”

Prepared for a number of walk-in registrations, staff members welcome those who make last minute decisions to attend.

The rapidly shifting world of journalism requires new ways of inspiring innovation. EPA’s convention provides strategic professional development to the evangelical periodical publishing industry.
