AHMEDABAD, India -- The Gujarat Education Summit recently held in Ahmadabad, which encountered the presence of several top-shots of education; envisioned towards the future of India with the successful Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
Free to the learner, MOOCs are high quality online courses from some of the world’s leading universities. A platform wherein students register, study video lectures and related material, and complete computer scored assessments and eventually come out with a degree. In some courses they participate in online conversations and peer activities. At the end of the course, for those that seek it, a letter of completion is issued. While this has no credit value, the letter does make it clear that the learner has completed a specific course.
They bring courses to a new market - those wishing to learn and enhance their career graph. They make world class knowledge and skills freely available.
Students don’t need to apply to take a MOOC. All they need is a computer, an internet connection, some free time and a desire to learn.
To teach MOOCs courses in classrooms as part of blended learning, which means to bring together the combination of world-class teaching resources available online, and computer-mediated learning, with face-to-face discussions in classroom settings that offer teacher-student and peer interaction.
Research has found this to greatly improve educational access to students as well as uplift their attitudes toward learning. All of this resulting in to a world which is more educated, more focused and aware about, not only themselves but about every nook and corner of the world.
