Counteract Computer Slouch By Using A Slant Board

SAN DIEGO -- A new book by British aromatherapist and health coach Mia Campbell is sure to make you sit up while you read it. You'll be horrified by how much pressure we put on our spines when we slouch forward, looking at a computer. It's why you can put your back out seemingly without doing anything - and why farmers have less back problems then office workers, at least they can stand up and stretch when out digging the fields!

Mia's book is about inversion therapy, which is lying with your feet higher than your head. It’s based on the idea that the spine is under constant pressure whatever we do – standing, sitting, or lying down. The pressure alters depending on what you doing and slouching forward while sitting is particularly bad. Lying upside down takes the pressure off the spinal discs, which can otherwise get compressed and split or tear, which is very painful.

Author Mia used to be an IT teacher and was worried about the future back health of her students as they spent much of their school days slouching over computers, desks, iPads, etc. She says: “There has been a lot of research into the pressure that is on our spinal discs and it is particularly bad when we sit leaning forwards, as many of us do all day when working at a computer. We know that decompression starts to happen when you lie with your feet higher than your head at just a 20° angle (full decompression happens at 60°, which is why inverting is so great for the body. Inversion therapy is ideal at counteracting the effects of ‘computer hunch’.”

Mia hopes that readers will be able to try inversion therapy themselves, by using the plans in her book to make their own slant board. She says: “A slant board is a great way of trying out inversion therapy. They are quick and inexpensive to make and can be stored under or behind furniture when not in use. Mine doubles as a racing track for toy cars for visiting children!”

Nancy Hendrickson, owner of Green Pony Press, Inc., says: “This is a very important book because it not only helps people alleviate pain, but it can also help prevent a lot of the problems associated with aging and stress. Mia is an experienced aromatherapist and health coach with a natural writing style that reaches out to people who need health advice – because she has been through a lot of ill-health and pain herself. We are delighted to be able to publish this book as it is going to be helpful to so many people.”

The book is available from Amazon in both Kindle and paperback formats.
