SUBIC BAY FREEPORT, Philippines -- Participants of the International Rice Research Institute’s (IRRI) yearly postharvest training course were at the GrainPro plant in Subic Bay, Philippines recently. IRRI, the International Rice Research Institute, organizes the annual tours to spread awareness among its key staff, stakeholders and students.
The guests were mostly IRRI scientists and government representativesfrom Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, Pakistan, Peru, Singapore, South Africa and Thailand. They were here to learn more about GrainPro’s Ultra Hermetic™ storage and safe drying solutions.
Domestic Sales VP Ting Gomos and Admin VP TingTing Maandig welcomed everyonewith opening remarks while Training Manager, Joel Dator, gave a powerful presentation and answered questions from the participants who were very interested in many of our products such as the SuperGrainbag™, Cocoon™ and Solar Bubble Dryer™. After the presentations, the guests were treated to a plant tour where they witnessedGrainPro products being produced.
The hope is that the visit expands awareness of technology developed by GrainPro as well as how it could address the food security challenges faced by developing nations. The event also strengthens existing partnerships between the two organizations in their likeminded goal of reducing hunger through innovations in safe storage, drying and crop transport. GrainPro works in partnership with IRRI and Hohenheim University (Germany) on the development of the Solar Bubble Dryer (SBD) which is designed to dry grain crops even during wet weather.
In an official statement, GrainPro, Inc. President Phil Villers informed that “GrainPro and IRRI are working together to reduce hunger and poverty in developing countries of the world. Rice is one of the dominant subsistence crops in the world and poor rice farmers often suffer enormous post-harvest losses due to moisture, insects and rodents. Safely storing grains like rice is a significant factor to improving global food security. We look forward to continuing to work with all of our visitors to reducing food loss in their countries."
