Dr Richard Wang is without a doubt one of the most influential founding fathers of the information and data quality field. Through his tireless effort and unstoppable enthusiasm, he has been the driving force that has established information and data quality as an academic discipline of research and practice. Dr Wang has contributed to the field through a number of seminal books and articles. The impact of his work is clearly demonstrated by the fact that he is the most cited author in the information and data quality research literature. Moreover, his influence has been world-wide having personally fostered a global information and data quality community of interest that has spawned information quality societies in Germany, France, Brazil, China, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Spain, and many other countries. Always a dynamic leader and innovative thinker, he has led the efforts to establish a number of successful and enduring information and data quality enterprises including the MIT Information Quality Program, the International Conference on Information Quality (ICIQ), the Chief Data Officer and Information Quality Symposium (CDO-IQS), and Information Quality Graduate Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Dr Pierce’s award is a testament to her dedication to the profession as well as the IAIDQ and its members. As a faculty member at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, she was instrumental in establishing the first Master of Science program in information quality. Her academic leadership and research have significantly advanced the cause of information and data quality landscape both nationally and internationally. In collaboration with members of the IAIDQ Board of Directors, Dr Pierce has successfully completed three important industry survey studies that explore topics of critical interest to information and data quality professionals. These include “The State of Information and Data Quality” (2012), “The State of Information and Data Governance” (2008), and “The Information/Data Quality Salary and Job Satisfaction Report” (2009). In addition, she is the co-editor of Information Quality, and the author of numerous research articles appearing in numerous books, journals, conference proceedings, and newsletters. A member of IAIDQ since 2006, Dr. Pierce participated in the 2008 working group that compiled the set of knowledge and skills that now comprise the IAIDQ Six Domains of Information Quality. These have formed the foundation of the Information Quality Certified Professional (IQCP), a credential that has set the standard for professional recognition in the field of information and data quality.

Grant Robinson has been a founding member of IAIDQ, and is amongst its longest serving Board members. He has served as the webmaster for IAIDQ since 2005 while also serving as Director of Operations since 2009, a role that requires attention to detail and a discipline in planning and execution. He has recently taken over as the Executive Officer of the IAIDQ after retirement from a 42 year long career as a natural resource scientist in New South Wales State government in Australia. In the last part of his career, he worked on a collaborative project with the Australian Federal Government and Queensland State Government, developing water monitoring guidelines to define consistent water monitoring practices to underpin information quality in the national water database. For his dedicated, steady, long-term commitment to the association, its members, and the broader community, IAIDQ confers its 2013 Distinguished Service award to Grant.

Dr Wang, Dr Pierce and Mr. Robinson are consummate professionals who have played important roles in the Information and Data Quality field. These awards are a small token of the gratitude from the members and the Board of Directors for their hard work and investments into making IAIDQ the successful organization that it is today.
