Currency Becomes Art: Estlow's The Dirty Money Series

PHILADELPHIA -- The 'Dirty Money' Series (Art on World Currency) opens its September 2013 Exclusive Gallery Showing with an Open House on First Friday, September 6th, 7-10pm at the Black Vulture Gallery, Philadelphia, PA.

Art is created on a copy of currency originals, which are then enlarged to various sizes (over 600%) and digitally printed, signed and serially numbered (50 in a series). 21 of the 56 pieces from the 'Dirty Money' series will be on display.

Estlow uses currency as a canvas to create vivid depictions of scenes and satires. From the US Dollar with a Bank Robber (evoking the song "Bankrobber" performed by The Clash), to the Swiss Franc with a Zombie girl watching -- Estlow's work is intelligent, pithy, sarcastic, and humorous.

“Very interesting images. What really got my attention was the fact that we live in a society that loves money or hates it. Chris (Estlow) was able to bring those two worlds and views together and express that on currency. Can't wait to see all the prints and be able to explore all details of the pieces in person.” – Roza Frykowska

“It is so captivating and fascinating to seeing something as commonplace as money transformed into an action scene and enlarged and framed. Estlow adds so much detail, depth and movement into his work.” – Sarah Hannah Stone

“I always knew that the root of all money was evil but this puts a whole new spin on things.” – Alexander T.
