Embracing the true spirit of Ramadan, Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha has joined forces with World Food Program (WFP) in its bid to fight hunger. Roxana Jaffer, Resident Director of Holiday Inn Dubai - Al Barsha, said, “Guests who break their fast at The Gem Garden restaurant this year will have the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped to feed four hungry children with every Iftar. This initiative is part of our endeavor to make the world a better place for all. Every child and human deserves the basics of life. And the smallest contribution can make a difference. It takes one dirham to provide a school meal to a child in need”
The global food situation is truly alarming. Every day more than 16000 children die from hunger-related causes – one child every 5 seconds. WFP is the food aid arm of the United Nations system and is dedicated to eradicating hunger and poverty.
This initiative is part of the “Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha Loves You Campaign” that was launched in 2007 as part of the hotel’s endeavor to go beyond the bottom-line to demonstrate Corporate Social Responsibility. The backdrop of the Campaign is “Life isn’t worth living unless it’s lived for someone else”(Hadith of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
In the five years since its inception, the hotel staff has successfully held various awareness and fund-raising drives under this amazing campaign thus contributing, in their own small way, to building civil society in the UAE whilst helping the needy in other parts of the world. Some other noteworthy initiatives were the Valentine’s “Tea Party” for Children with special needs, 2010 “Pakistan Flood Relief” Appeal and Labour Camp “Carom Tournament” as well as “Marathon” For a Cause , and Iftar for underprivileged children of “Action Care” and “Al Noor Training Centre”. A Jamboree bazaar was held last year to support the needy and have an afternoon of fun with them.
