Brief Candle is a lyrical biographical debut by Pradeep Gulati published by Notion Press. Victor, the protagonist, falls in love with Anju, both in their adolescence and think of a life together. So real and strong was the bond between the two that it was almost impossible to think of a permanent separation for the two.

However, both were ambitious and wanted to establish their own careers in the most acceptable ways as was the trend way back in 1980s. Victor became a Marine Engineer and traveled around the world and Anju shifted to London to pursue her own dreams. From 1975 onwards Victor’s story is the kind of biography which compels and binds the reader to know more about his life. Though the story is long but his life probably was lit only until the life of that ‘Brief Candle’ which haunts him all the time.

Exceptionally well expressed emotions, Brief Candle deserves a wide readership. Pradeep Gulati has many other short stories published in the well known magazines – Savvy, Chic, Eve’s Weekly and Youth Times etc.
