DMCA studies HafenCity waterfront development and other German sustainable maritime operations

Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, recently conducted a series of bilateral meetings with senior German officials and maritime industry professionals to discuss latest maritime programs and best sustainable operations in maritime cluster management. The meetings were held on the sidelines of a recent visit by DMCA officials to the German city of Hamburg.

The delegation from DMCA, accompanied by representatives from the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK) toured various maritime and logistics facilities in Hamburg, including HafenCity, a waterfront development that is the largest rebuilding project in Europe in terms of landmass, and Hamburg Port – Hamburg Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), one of the leading international port logistics companies.

They also met key maritime executives such as Dr. Anatol Dutta of the International Max Planck Research School for Maritime Affairs; Jürgen Bruns-Berentelg, CEO of HafenCity; Peter Bergleiter of Messe Hamburg – SMM Exhibition; German Maritime Arbitration Association Chairman Jan Wölper and Deputy Chairman Esther Mallach; and Prof. Dr. Doris Kong of the Bucerius Law School and President of the Institute for the Law of the Sea.

Amer Ali, Executive Director, DMCA, said: “The official visit to Hamburg gave us an opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with our German counterparts as we continue to focus on establishing strategic alliances with our partners around the world. We aim to adopt best practices that will help realize the vision of Dubai Maritime City Authority to establish Dubai as a world-class maritime hub. Moreover, DMCA also seeks to share the knowledge and specialized expertise that we have accumulated in the development of Dubai Maritime City. Our trip to Hamburg will further intensify our efforts in promoting best practices and raising the bar of maritime excellence at the local, regional and international levels.”

The DMCA delegation also includes Dr. Ahmad Al Jaghbeer, Head of Legal Affairs, DMCA; Khalid Meftah, Director of Maritime Corporate Development, DMCA; Mohammad Al Bastaki, DMCA’s Director of Maritime Operations; Dr. Peter Goepfrich, CEO of the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce; and Kifah Saleh, Head of PR & Marketing Support, AHK.
