The Dastkar Basant Bazaar to Showcase 70 craft groups from 18 States

DASTKAR, an organisation working with crafts and craftspeople all over India for the last 30 years, is organising a BASANT BAZAAR in collaboration with CCRT (Centre for Cultural Resources and Training) in their beautiful grounds in Dwarka, New Delhi from 12th February 2011 to 21stFebruary 2011 from 10:30am - 7:30pm

Since BASANT is the Indian spring – a time of fresh beginnings and flowering verdant nature, it It will be both a celebration of Basant and of Kamladevi Chattopadhyaya, the mentor and mother of the post-Independence Indian craft movement.

Approximately 65 to 70 crafts groups from 18 states all over India will be participating in the BASANT BAZAAR, bring a rich medley of handicrafts and handlooms – weaves, block prints, embroideries, furniture, garments, footwear, home accessories, gift items, folk art and toys.

They range from decorative juthis from Rajasthan to tribal jewellery from Orissa, silk sarees from Banaras and Bhagalpur to stoles and shawls from Kutch and Uttarakhand, cane furniture from Assam and sujni and kantha embroideries from Bengal and Bihar, Madhubani and phad painting....

Organic and herbal food stuffs, soaps and oils will also be a part of the BASANT BAZAAR.

Dastkar’s objective is to bring together rural producer and urban consumer, and promote awareness of the beauty and potential of Indian handcraft. Its Bazaars are a brand name for quality crafts at fair prices – contemporarized for market and sold by the craftspeople themselves.
