Kuester Management Group Details Summer Landscaping Tips for HOA Communities

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - June 2, 2021 - Now that the chance of frost has passed and warm summer weather has emerged, many people are spending more time outdoors and want to keep their yards looking attractive. Everything from what is planted to when it is watered to how short grass is kept can make a difference. Kuester Management Group has released a statement to the press regarding ways homeowners and associations can make the most of landscaping.

"Summers in the Carolinas can be extremely hot, and rain can be unpredictable," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "Consider incorporating drought resistant plants into your landscaping that are able to withstand hot, dry environments. They can complement other plants and add a pop of lasting color or greenery."

Timing of watering is also key, says Kuester. Avoid watering plants and lawns during the hottest part of the day. Instead, aim for first thing in the morning before the sun has heated everything up. Do a deep watering a few times a week and let the warmth of the day naturally encourage growth and evaporate excess water. Watering later in the evening can lead to mold or fungus growth as it gets dark and temperatures drop.

Many homeowners also try to cut grass short to avoid having to mow as often. But longer grass is actually recommended for summer to protect roots and preserve water. Aim for a height of 2.5 inches to 3 inches, and make sure the mower blade is sharp for a clean cut. Mulching grass clippings can also add valuable nutrients back into the soil and keep lawns healthier.

"The association should work with its landscaping company to create an effective plan for common areas to keep them looking their best throughout the year," says Kuester. "Ensure mowing, planting, fertilizing, pest control, and other services fit within the HOA's budget and align with the community's goals and expectations."
