Contestant gets Surprise Engagement at National Pageant

WASHINGTON - March 26, 2021 - Miss DC for America 2020, Lakiesha Brown, had already made history by being the first in the LBGTQ community to win the state level title. She planned to go to the national pageant, Miss for America, and make history again by being the first in the LBGTQ community and African-American to win the national title. Unfortunately, she did not win the Miss for America crown (Miss Ohio won). However, Lakeisha, got something even better... a proposal by her longtime girlfriend, Toni Lemons, 37. Toni set up a beautiful room filled with roses candles and pictures to surprise Lakiesha when she walked in the door.

The two have known each other for a year and a half. They found each other on a dating app called Bumble. They still go back-and-forth as to who actually swiped first to get in contact with the other person. Either way it goes it's very obvious they were the perfect match and are now truly in love with each other.

Lakeisha Brown states,"I am the happiest I have ever been because I am with the person who I love. "
