Indie Rights picks up award winning sci-fi film First Signal

WORCESTER, Mass. - Feb. 7, 2021 - Mark Lund, Executive Producer, Writer and Director, is pleased to announce that Los Angeles based Indie Rights has picked up worldwide distribution rights to First Signal. At the time of this announcement First Signal has been an official selection of twenty-seven film festivals, winning sixteen including Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Actress. First Signal - when Air Force Space Command receives a signal from an alien satellite in Earth orbit an emergency meeting with the President reveals a government conspiracy - represents the first installment in the First World Universe

"I have known of Linda Nelson's Indie Rights for many years and her outstanding reputation in the industry, particularly among filmmakers," said Lund. "With our festival wins and Indie Rights distribution network, we look forward to presenting First Signal to worldwide audiences."

Since its founding in 2007 by Nelson and Michael Madison, Indie Rights has distributed over 1,000 independent films around the world. Known in the industry as an innovator, Indie Rights first digital feature was the first movie on Amazon's UnBox (the predecessor of Amazon Video). With partnerships forged early on with leading digital platforms, Indie Rights represents its titles every year at AFM and Cannes Film Market.

"Indie Rights is very excited about releasing this fascinating look at the possibility that aliens have been living among us for quite some time. We all ponder the possibility, but this is a movie that really helps us to imagine the plausibility of such a concept," said Nelson. "As we are pushing towards space once again, I think everyone is again wondering about the existence of alien life."

The idea behind First Signal began over ten years ago when Lund wrote the screenplay First World. The origins of that story revolve around the Apollo space program. With NASA and private space contractors planning a return to the Moon, extrasolar planets being discovered on a regular basis and new communication technologies on the horizon, the timing for First Signal could not be better. First Signal doesn't seek to answer the question if we are alone in the universe, but what would the world do if an alien presence was already here. The sequel to First Signal will be First Launch.

First Signal is scheduled for release in the 2nd quarter of 2021.

First Signal stars Paul Noonan (General John Reager), Conor Timmis (Cedric Yonah), Wendy Hartman (President Helen Colton), Patience McStravick (Major Ellen Sampson) and Stephanie Eaton (National Security Advisor Elisabeth Seward).
