Singer-Rapper Vala Shares an Emotional Music Video for her Upcoming Mental Health Anthem "Follow Me

NEW YORK - Dec. 27, 2020 - Passionate singer-rapper VALA unveils a poignant music video for her upcoming single "Follow Me." Illustrating a sincere message of mental health solidarity, her single "Follow Me" is dedicated to a friend that she had lost to suicide. Capturing feelings of both hopelessness and hope, this anthem is for everyone who battles with mental health issues and suicidal thoughts, as a reminder that they can conquer their inner demons and that they are not alone. The music video for "Follow Me" is currently available on YouTube, but the single itself will debut worldwide on November 30th.

Mental health is an obstacle that everyone faces, and it is something that VALA especially empathizes with. As a former addict, she recognizes that addiction is provoked by pain; the path to overcoming similar issues is a relentless undertaking. She has befriended and lived with a multitude of people, who have battled PTSD, depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. With her music video for "Follow Me," VALA depicts the unwavering melancholy that encompasses these struggles, later displacing this feeling with collective visuals of her and her friends to reinstill a sense of togetherness.

In the first verse of "Follow Me," VALA describes a real conversation that she had with one of her friends— if others had his life they would use drugs like he does and lose everything like he does. This heart-rending line became the core of her mental health anthem. Thankfully, she didn't lose the friend that she had spoken with, but she did lose another close friend by the time that she had finished writing and recording this song.

Reflecting on the production of the music video for "Follow Me," VALA describes, "I asked others - as many who wanted to be in this video as possible - to sing with me to let people know that they are not alone. Although we all have different stories and different paths, we can all find common ground because, at the end of the day, we are all human. I will scream with whoever needs to be screamed with or fought for. And I know many others who would too."

Growing up, music saved VALA's life. Writing lyrics would allow her to briefly escape her tough reality, allowing her to connect with her inner self. Her emotional experiences with music prompted her to become a lyricist, a musician, and an artist. Utilizing her creativity, VALA continuously advocates for mental health to be treated like physical health because both are medical health problems.
