WASHINGTON - Dec. 6, 2020 - The US High Speed Rail Association is proud to host the tenth webinar in its successful Professional Webinar Series: A Tale of Two Stations: Union Station Los Angeles & Denver on Wednesday December 9, 2020, 10a PST/1pm EST.

This webinar will focus on the modernization and redevelopment of two of America's most historically significant urban rail stations – Union Station Los Angeles & Union Station Denver. LA Union Station is about to begin a multi-billion dollar modernization and expansion that will include new tracks and platforms for high speed rail. Denver Union station completed their modernization in 2014 and it became a new magnet of activity and development in Denver ever since.

Webinar presenters include:

Jeanet Owens is the Senior Executive Officer – Program Management/Regional Rail for LA Metro, and directs Union Station's multi-billion dollar redevelopment project which includes new tracks and spaces for California High Speed Rail. Jeanet is a licensed civil engineer in the State of California with over 16 years professional experience in civil engineering and project/construction management. She worked on the Wilshire Grand Redevelopment Project and with Thomas Properties Group Development Services (construction, tenant improvements, engineering design, transportation, infrastructure and sustainable design for the City of Los Angeles) and the County of Los Angeles (project management). Jeanet is also an accredited professional in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for sustainable practice under the United States Green Building Council.

Ken Pratt is the Deputy Executive Officer of Union Station Operations at LA Metro. He will frame Los Angeles' Union Station renovations in the historical perspective and the role the station played in the City during its early years. As a historian and preservationist, Ken will discuss the careful blending of a new, modern station with the historical 1930s art-deco building.

Bill Sirois is the Senior Manager for Transit Oriented Communities at RTD Denver. He brings RTD and stakeholders together in his work to create sustainable developments for the Denver metro area. Bill leads RTD's TOD Pilot Program (launched in 2010) to implement joint development in key locations along RTD's existing and planned rail system. Bill led RTD's process to select a developer for the reuse of Denver's historic Union Station and was a key member of RTD's negotiation team, which worked with the developer, Union Station Alliance, to turn Denver Union Station into the 118 room Crawford Hotel.

"We're excited to have such distinguished experts in their fields present 2 iconic station projects," said USHSR President Andy Kunz. "Rail travel is coming back stronger than ever, and these 2 stations exemplify this great renaissance!"
