Did you ever wonder what might happen if your cat turned human?

About the Book:
When feisty Tiffany loses her temper with boyfriend Anthony, and accidentally topples a set of inherited Egyptian figurines, ancient forces take their mischievous revenge...and grant her careless wish that men were more like her tabby cat Felix.

It’s fun at first, as Tiffany and Felix gleefully launch him into her social circle, but it soon becomes clear that charismatic Felix spells trouble. As he wins lightning-fast success as a talented artist, Tiffany and her friends’ relationships begin to flex and recalibrate – not always for the better.
There’s something more afoot here; and Tiffany realises that whatever’s got into her cat and his art, has appeared before in her curious family.

Suspicious elders, Ozzy and Iris, circle as ‘Felix’ and his artworks peak and spiral into trouble. Tiffany meets a promising new love and, in this tightly-woven dark comedy of manners, develops a conscience about some - but not all - of Felix’s effects on her friends’ lives. Torn between helping fast-deteriorating Felix evade Ozzy and Iris’s sinister grasp, or just washing her hands of him, she finally chooses. But none see coming the bizarre opportunity seized by fading but predatory and cunning Felix.

About the Author:
Cathy Gunn, born in Tanzania in 1954, grew up in Nigeria, Scotland, and parts of England before settling in London. 'Felix Unbound' is her first novel. Her non-fiction books, written during a long career as a financial journalist and financial editor at a variety of UK national newspapers and magazines, reveal what underlay some of the business scandals and dramas of the 1990s.

A shift into arts fundraising for theatres led her to an iconic archaeological project in London's Shoreditch at the rediscovered site of the first purpose-built theatre since Roman times - James Burbage's renowned 16th century 'The Theatre'. Cathy raised funds to build a viewing walkway for the modern theatre company that owned the site at the time, to show visitors the dig and its discoveries in progress. Following these brushes with the past, she did an MA in the History of Ideas. Research during that yielded a treasure trove to draw upon for her fiction writing. She is currently working on a novella, and some short stories.

Excerpt from the book:
“You are moving at the speed of light as usual, Felix, and maybe soon I’ll be glad to lurk in the background and admire your starry ascent. Just don’t leave too much fallout behind for me to have to sweep up. I do love the art,’ she conceded, ‘and the new food-shopping skills – with the cash that I loaned you! I investigated the fridge, and put the fish pie in the oven when I went to make the juleps. It should be ready by now.’ He brightened. Supper time. Good. He picked a sprig of mint out of his water glass, and started to chew on it.

‘Tiff, I love you,’ he declared. ‘Always have.’

‘Cupboard love?’ She walked away, heading indoors. ‘It’s a working supper. If we are still doing this thing, you have that family tree to draw. I’ll ink in the names.’ Felix’s literacy was better than he had claimed but she wanted to be sure that nothing else unlikely was sneaked in to the record uninvited.

‘I like this sort of story-telling almost as much as painting,’ Felix said happily, pacing after her as the dusk, settling in behind them, heralded his most creative hours. The small dose of dilute bourbon had ebbed away – useful to know how fast it peaks and fades in his system, he thought – and the freshly-chewed sprig of mint was sharpening his imagination. He felt vividly alert, and licked his lips. Beautiful night was drawing in.”
