College Preparation Proves Challenging Amid Covid-19 Concerns

CHICAGO - July 28, 2020 - MGM College Services, LLC. presents a College Transition Conference for Academic, Campus, and Life Success. The virtual event will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020, from 11am to 2pm CST. High school and college students who are transitioning to colleges, transferring schools and even transitioning into virtual learning will receive essential skills to adapt to new environments and the challenges that come with them.

"America is in a pandemic of massive proportions, especially our students," says Marilyn Gilbert-Mitchell, Founder of MGM College Services, LLC. "With schools going virtual and colleges starting in late August, millions of students are still experiencing significant challenges and uncertainties under the COVID-19 cloud. Our goal is to ease fears, calm anxiety and provide resources to help with transitions to college, and even to virtual learning."

The Conference will bridge the gaps between students and access to information. Experts from various professions will equip students with tips and strategies in four areas: Best College Practices, Financial Literacy and Wellness, Legal and Interactional Awareness, and Health and Relationship Wellness. Representatives from the University of Illinois at Chicago; Central Michigan University; Malcolm X. College; Roosevelt University; Bell Tax Accountants and Advisors; KimCo International; Steps, Inc. Consulting; U. S. Bank; Center for Abused Women and Children; Between Friends; Camille Hicks Law; Metropolitan Peace Academy; National Democratic Party; and medical and mental health professionals will all lend their expertise.

"For Black and brown students in lower socioeconomic areas or with recent household income changes, their challenges are multiplied, their stress is magnified," says Gilbert-Mitchell. "Thousands of students are unsure of options and next steps. This conference will equip families to make decisions that are best for them. Even for students opting to postpone or cancel college plans, sessions are embedded with important information for a successful start to adulthood."

Event sponsors, U.S. Bank and Steps, Inc. Consulting, are also represented on panels to provide resources and expertise. The summit will also include interactive competitions, swag bags and prizes. Tickets are $20, eligible for group rates for 10+ tickets, and are available at www.CollegeTransitionConference.eventbrite.com.
