GREENSBORO, N.C. - July 8, 2020 - North Carolina A&T State University's BB&T Stadium (formerly Aggie Stadium) is one of the premiere track & field facilities in the country. With its Mondo Super X Performance track, it was known as being one of the fastest tracks in the southeast.
Seventeen years after first installing its first Mondo track surface, the NCAA Division I school is conducting a repeat performance, renovating the track with another Mondo surface: the company's Super X 720.

"We are very excited about getting the new Mondo surface," said Director of Track & Field Programs at North Carolina A&T State University Duane Ross. "It has great energy return, which is important. The previous Mondo track lasted 17 years and held up extremely nicely. You couldn't have asked for a better product as far as performance and maintenance. I can only imagine how well we'll do practicing and performing on the new surface. It's going to be an exciting year."
Ideal for both training and high-level competition, Mondo track surfaces are made from rubber and vulcanized to produce a continuous, seamless piece of material that will not separate. In addition, they have a life expectancy of 15 years or more, won't compress or break down over time, can withstand heavy static and rolling loads, are easy to maintain with non-porous surfaces, and have a low total cost of ownership.
"Having a Mondo track is key for recruiting top athletes to the A&T track & field program," says Ross. "We had an excellent 2020 men's track & field recruiting class, which includes the No. 1 athlete in the country, as well as a number of other talented runners. The surface you train on is significant when recruiting athletes of this caliber, because they want to train and race on a superior surface. That's what they are getting with Mondo, which is known for being super-fast. That's what you need to break records and win titles, which is what everyone wants to do. The student-athletes are all very excited about having a Mondo track."
With its Mondo Super X Performance track, the North Carolina A&T venue has seen some exceptional athletic performances and played host to numerous national track meets.
"Training on a surface that is used for Olympic Games and world championships is always a huge plus," said Ross. "The type of track you train on is extremely important. Mondo is an exceptional track for training and competition, and Mondo tracks are known for being fast. Having the Mondo track is key for winning conference championships and getting ready for NCAA championships, as well as for being chosen to host major meets here."
Geo Surfaces, based in Mooresville, North Carolina, is installing the track.
