BRAMPTON, Ontario - June 7, 2020 - Jocelyne Vézina, the current District 86 Program Quality Director was elected as the new District Director for the 2020-21 Toastmaster Year at the recently held District Council Annual Virtual Business Meeting. Her new role takes effect on July 1, 2020.
Vézina will lead and manage over 3500 Toastmasters in over 235 clubs located in Southern, Central and Northern Ontario. Her team will focus on club growth and strengthening membership across South Western, Central and Northern Ontario. She will also lead an additional pair of Program Quality and Club Growth Directors designated for a newly created district starting in June 2021.
The incoming District Director started her Toastmasters journey in 2009 when she joined Comfortably Speaking Toastmasters in Mississauga to improve her communication and leadership skills. Her passion to grow and help others lead her to join Lambs to Lions and Chez Nous Toastmasters (a French club) two years later and mentor a new club Mississauga Sales and Marketing Toastmasters. She became a Distinguished Toastmaster, the highest education award achievement in Toastmasters in 2012.
Vézina, the recipient of the 2016-17 Toastmasters of the Year award is known to many for her selflessness and devotion to Toastmasters over the years. She has served in various club and District roles since 2010. Her recent roles include Pathways Chief Ambassador (2015-2018), Club Growth Director (2018-19) up to her current role as Program Quality Director.
Her turning point in her Toastmasters experience occurred after reading an article "Servant Leader" from the Toastmasters Magazine written by Past International President Mike Storkey "Toastmasters has given me so much; I want to give back" Vézina said, "Based on that article I decided to get more involved in the district's leadership to share what I learned and help mentor other members so they can experience for themselves the same kind of growth I did".
