ATLANTA - March 5, 2020 - Dr. Hadiyah-Nicole Green is one of the first African American women to earn a Ph.D. in Physics. A Professor at the Morehouse School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, the Millennial is on the brink of a cancer revolution. Dr. Green's Laser-Activated NanoTherapy (LANT) has wholly eradicated cancer in mice with 100% tumor regression in 15 days, using a single 10-minute laser treatment, with no observable side effects. The radical new procedure targets cancerous cells while preserving healthy ones. With LANT, no radio or chemotherapy is needed. This treatment is designed as a multi-cancer platform therapy and has implications for a variety of solid tumor types, including breast, prostate, skin, colorectal, brain, and a variety of inoperable, chemo-resistant cancers.
The recipient of multiple national and international awards, she is in the midst of a nationwide speaking tour to disseminate information about the treatment. She is giving hope to millions that soon, the procedure will be ready for human trials. Moving from the laboratory to hospital is a $10 million first phase endeavor for which Dr. Green is currently raising awareness and seeking financing support. For Dr. Green, the cancer fight is personal. She founded the 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, the Ora Lee Smith Cancer Research Foundation, in her aunt's name, who died of cancer along with her uncle. The mission of the Foundation is to assure that humane treatment is found to change the way cancer is treated and reduce cancer-patient suffering by providing care that is accessible, affordable, and effective. Dr. Green states, "At 22 years old, I became the primary caregiver to my aunt and uncle who were the only parents I knew. I witnessed the horrors of both cancer and cancer treatments and I knew there had to be a better way."
She is the recipient of a $1.1 million Veterans Administration grant to further the study of cancer. According to the National Institutes of Health, 39.3% of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Dr. Green exclaims, "My goal is to change the way cancer is treated. I envision with the proper funding that hospital patient treatment can occur in as little as five years." She is considered in many circles as the new "answer to cancer."
