Islamic Arts Society Gala will be held in Houston

SPRING, Texas - Feb. 3, 2020 - The inaugural Islamic Arts Society Gala will be held on the 8th of March, 2020 at the Hilton Post Oak Hotel in Houston.

The host committee is led by Mr. Shoukat Dhanani, Mr. Ayaz Nasser and Mr. Charles Foster and a number of civic and community leaders will attend the event. The mayor of Houston is confirmed as a key-note speaker.

The purpose of our first Gala is to celebrate our success, raise awareness about our events and to raise funds for our programs. Islamic Arts Society's signature "Building Bridges Through Islamic Arts" program employs an art exhibition, reception and a hands-on interactive series of arts workshops where participants not only learn about Islamic heritage and culture, but also produce their own bodies of work using Islamic art techniques. This interaction we hope will lead to better relationship between Muslim and non-Muslim Americans. To date, Islamic Arts Society has produced 30 such programs in partnership with 14 Houston area libraries and college campuses.

The Islamic Arts Society aims to share the rich heritage of Islamic Arts. The society organizes events to celebrate our culture and promote the positive image of our community among Houstonians. We organize the largest and oldest festival of Islamic Arts in USA which attracts over 5000 visitors each year. Over the last 6 years we have collaborated with the Asia Society, Rice University, Interfaith Ministries and the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs to bring quality art exhibitions and workshops to Houstonians. Through our library, school and college outreach programs we touch thousands more in the Greater Houston area. In 2017 Islamic Art exhibition was inaugurated by the Mayor of Houston and was displayed at the city Hall. We have made our mark through the common language of Arts which binds diverse communities. By promoting Islamic arts, we hope to promote mutual understanding, enhance cultural and religious harmony and to bring the broader and diverse Houston community together.
