Mayer-Kuvert purchases two W+D 628 envelope production systems

European market leader invests in inline production of sophisticated printed direct mail envelopes

Neuwied, Germany, December 2, 2019 — Mayer-Kuvert-network, Europe’s largest company in the envelope industry, has signed a contract to purchase two W+D 628 envelope machines with the option of later acquiring a third machine.

At this year’s W+D Direct Mail Days, the company had already experienced the new W+D 628 envelope machine live. Equipped with state-of-the-art control technology and complemented by the extended W+D 201 inline printing system with LED UV drying, the system showed flexo printing at its best. The year before, Mayer-Kuvert had already purchased a total of ten W+D Halm i-Jet 2 four-color high-speed digital inkjet printing machines at the event and has since gained good experiences with them. It was therefore only logical to move on to inline printing of envelopes.

Besides the production and distribution of a broad range of standard envelopes, which can also be custom-printed, Mayer-Kuvert-network focuses on the production of customized advertising envelopes for increasing direct mail response rates. “When we saw the W+D 628 at Direct Mail Days and the printing and production results that ultimately landed on the output table, we were immediately convinced,” commented Thomas Schwarz, CEO of Mayer-Kuvert. “This machine addresses the exact area in which we in Western Europe had to produce more cost-intensively in the past due to the many individual process steps. The inline production of the W+D 628 now offers us the opportunity to realize sophisticated and at the same time very attractive mailings in a single step.” Schwarz also sees a big advantage in the fact that hardly any training is necessary, as the machine is consistently geared towards easy operation.

The first machine will be delivered to England in March and the second to Poland at the end of May. Both will then begin to produce envelopes within a very short time. The company plans to produce mainly medium runs and up to 200 million envelopes per year per machine.

“The investment decision to purchase another machine will depend on how the first two machines start up. The third machine would then also be installed in Poland, as it is our main location for covering all of Europe,” said Schwarz.
