DBL Center Writes Paid Family Leave in New York and Boston

MELVILLE, N.Y. - Oct. 29, 2019 - DBL Center specializes in statutory short-term disability benefits in New York, New Jersey, and beyond, announces the expanding availability of paid family leave benefits across the Northeast.

New York Increases PFL Benefit for 2020

Insurance brokers in New York should already be aware of Paid Family Leave, which is written as a rider to mandatory DBL (Disability Benefits Law) insurance in companies with more than one employee. Paid Family Leave covers paid time off to:
Care for a family member with a serious health condition
Take care of family when a partner is called to active duty in the U.S. military
Bond with an infant/newly adopted child
Introduced in 2018, in 2020 PFL benefits will increase to 60% of an employee's average weekly wage (AWW) for up to 10 weeks of leave.

Massachusetts Reveals Plans for Paid Family Medical Leave

MA PFML, slated to start January 1, 2021, is written independently. Brokers in the Northeast can create additional, ongoing revenue streams and expand their book of business through the sale of this new benefit.

Businesses can opt to write PFML through the state or apply for a private plan exemption to secure coverage through top-rated private carriers. A consultative selling approach can help brokers guide business owners through the process and showcase the benefits and potential cost-savings of writing PFML through a private carrier.
