October 01, 2019 - Many people observe a fast during all the nine days and visit temples to seek the Goddess' blessings. Navaratri is observed to celebrate goddess Durga's conquest of the demon, Mahishasura. The battle between them lasted nine days, at the end of which the demon was killed. The nine days are celebrated as Navaratri. The festival symbolizes the triumph of good over evil.
