Weatherford recognized for his exclusive contributions to physics at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU)
TALLAHASSEE - Charles A. Weatherford, Ph.D., recently appointed as the vice president for research at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), has also been elected and received distinction as a 2019 Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS).
According to the award letter from APS President David Gross, Weatherford was elected, "for the innovative development and application of numerical techniques to few-body systems and for passionate commitment to educating and mentoring African-American men and women."
"It's a great honor to be elected...less than one percent of APS members can be a fellow at any time. This is not only a great honor for me and Florida A&M University, but for the students as well," said Weatherford.
He also said being named an APS Fellow is significant due to the honor bringing recognition to the science—specifically physics— being studied at FAMU, as well as the major contributions of the students conducting the research.
APS officially announced Weatherford as a fellow on Thursday, September 19. Weatherford and FAMU are listed in APS Fellow Archive, and he will also be featured in the December edition of APS News.
