Football Season is back for WOMEN

PROVINCETOWN, Mass. - Sept. 12, 2019 - Decades ago, women watched. They were confined to the sidelines for generations. Then, women could only spectate, sweetly celebrating the achievements of their male counterparts and waiting demurely for their turn on the football field. Each weekend women watched them, celebrated their skills, and acknowledged their abilities. Thanks to organizations like IWFFA, this has changed.

September 20th – 23rd the town of Provincetown Massachusetts will host the always famous IWFFA P-town Women's Flag Football Tournament. During this two-day event teams of women from all over the world will culminate in this town to display not only an intense 3-day competition, but an admirable bond for women of all races, nationality, age, skill level, economic status, and sexual orientation.

Since 1997, the IWFFA has sought to bring this sport to women across the world. They provide clinics, training, and tournaments to countries like Denmark, Norway, Sweden, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Afghanistan.

The ultimate goal of the IWFFA is to utilize the sport of flag football to catapult unity and camaraderie amongst women of different backgrounds around the world. Thus using the leadership skills, they learn, to make a difference in their communities. Founder Diane Beruldsen proudly admits, "We want all women and girls in the world to play flag football."

The weekend will begin with a welcome event at Harbor Lounge, and exclusive parties each evening for all those that are participating. Saturday's event will take place at Underground and awards will be at Bayside Betsy's. The IWFFA has secured discounted hotel rooms (make sure you use the code AWOL), and Toys of Eros are sponsoring the popular halftime games. With registration, players will receive free bike rentals, bike shack, an award, and an exclusive invitation to the tournament dinner at Fanizzi's.

Teams, as well as individuals, are encouraged to sign up to participate as everyone is accepted to play no matter your skill level or knowledge of the game. Again, this event is more about teaching leadership skills than the actual winning or losing of a game.

The tournament guarantees the women four games. Five teams from the United States and one from Pakistan are scheduled to compete along with a "loose women's team" with players from Honduras, Germany, Ireland, and Provincetown.

Registration fees are waived for girls and sponsors are welcomed to become a "Team Owner" for any girls' team by emailing: iwffa@iwffa.com or by calling Diane Beruldsen at 305-896-8678.
