How to choose natural rugs for your home?

BRADFORD, U.K. -- Redecorating your home can be a daunting task what with the wall decor, wall fitment, floor decor, and the likes. While most of room decor is about wall decor and furniture, we cannot overlook the role of floor rugs. A floor rug can accentuate the look of the room or can leave it looking pale.

The most recent trend to have hit the market is that of natural rugs. These rugs are made of vegetable fibers spun in beautiful designs. There are various types of fibers that are used such as Sisal, Coir and seagrass. Sisal rugs are made of cactus plant the pulp of which is spun and woven, ideal for those seeking traditional look.

Coir rugs are made of coconut husks and are rough in texture. Hence, they make great door mats. Seagrass rugs, on the other hand, are woven out of a reed and make for great spill-proof rugs and can be washed easily.

There are others doing the rounds too in the market like jute, bamboo and hemp, all of which make for great outdoor floor decor or even restaurants.

Natural rugs go well with any decor – contemporary or modern. If you are buying your first natural rub, there are a few points that you may want to consider:

1) Kind of rug: Choose the one that goes best with your decor or you could also decorate your walls according to the floor decor.

2) The right size: Consider the dimensions of the rooms and then decide upon the size that looks the best for your room. Usually, the rugs are made to cover the entire area and should be large enough to be accommodated under the furniture.

3) Rug material: Chances are that the rug material may cause allergies or discomfort when you walk on them every day. Always pay attention to any health concerns that may arise due to the new material introduced into your home, especially if you have kids or people with hypersensitive senses.

4) Colour: It’s always best to colour co-ordinate the rug with the rest of the room decor as you don’t want it to look out of place.

5) The right weave: Look for the borders of the rug, whether they are weaved like you like it or have the right border that doesn’t overdo the decor.

6) Rug pad: Since these rugs can be a little slippery and risky for people toppling over them, always buy a rug pad to place underneath the rug.

7) Keep it neat and clean: Unlike the usual floor carpets, cleaning rugs can be a daunting task. Choose the cleaning equipment before hand, better, consider the cleaning requirements before you buy the rug.
