Cirque du Soleil Toruk Brings New Vision to Southern Leg of Tour

After Cirque du Soleil Toruk: The First Flight finishes its Houston run on Valentine's Day, the touring company will take a short break before starting its swing through the Deep South on February 17, with engagements in Arkansas, North Carolina and Florida. The critically acclaimed company is striking out in bold new directions, says the touring company's director, and newspaper reviews of Toruk suggest that the show is successful at doing that on multiple levels.

According to Fabrice Lemire, the artistic director for [Cirque du Soleil Toruk](http://www.theatreticketbank.com/cirque-du-soleil/cirque-du-soleil-toruk-tickets), this latest offering from the well-established acrobatic dance company takes its direction from the movie €œAvatar," James Cameron's 2009 blockbuster film about humans saving a distant planet. It is not, however, a retelling of the story in Avatar. The storyline for Toruk takes place thousands of years before Avatar, and centers around the planet's native species, the Na'vi, rather than human saviors.

This is one of the things that sets Toruk apart, not only from Avatar, but also from other Cirque du Soleil shows. The main characters are 10-foot-tall creatures with stripes and feline features, but their story is one that's very relatable for human audiences. Lemire told reporters recently that uses €œimmersive technology" to bring the audience into the world of two teenage Na'vi on a quest to find a legendary bird. The show makes good use of the spectacular acrobatics, costumes and puppetry for which Cirque has become known, marrying them seamlessly to a storyline that will have a familiar feel.

The production makes use of 40 video projectors to maintain the illusion that the audience has been transported to Pandora, the setting of both Avatar and Cirque du Soleil Toruk. The production crew makes further use of technology with tracking devices attached to the costumes of performers and aerialists and linked to spotlights to ensure that the lights follow and highlight each character throughout their performances.

Positive reviews of Cirque Du Soleil Toruk: The First Flight have driven ticket sales, and it may be difficult to find [Cirque du Soleil tickets](http://www.theatreticketbank.com/cirque-du-soleil/cirque-du-soleil-toruk-tickets) for some sold-out shows, especially during February vacation. Determined fans, however, will still find a good selection of Toruk tickets on third-party ticket sites like ConcertBank.com.
