The Numeracy Skills Test that is a computerized test, consists of two sections. Section 1 contains mental arithmetic questions and section 2, written questions that are also called ‘on-screen’ questions. Section 1 is an audio test and hence, those who take up the test must hear through headphones. They can not use calculators but they can jot down and do the working. Every question must be answered within a fixed time. The candidate's ability to do mental calculations of fractions, percentages, conversions, time and measurement is tested with these questions.
Section 2 can be in various formats like multiple choice questions, multiple response questions, questions that require a single answer, and those in which candidates may have to ‘point and click’ on the right response. Candidates can use the ‘on-screen’ calculator. The purpose of these questions is to test the ability of candidates in interpreting and using statistical information. They are also for testing if the candidates can identify trends, make comparisons and are able to draw conclusions by interpreting charts and tables.
