Search Verses Search II

A very large unnamed internet search engine did poorly verses a small internet search in the last study dated in June 20, 2011. There must have been something wrong. The other study was titled "Unscientific Study, A Comparison of Internet Search Results." I decided to do another to see if the very large unnamed internet search engine did give preference to commercial websites, websites that had relevance (meaning a lot of previous views elevating those websites in search results,) or had advertisements mixed with research results. The search string this time around would be "home based business," in quotations. The thinking was in this day and time people might be interested in jobs at home. Last time I reviewed the very large unnamed search engine first. Tennesseans like myself believe in taking turns so the smaller one got to go first this time. This very small internet search delivers "exact match," all the words," then "the rest."

I entered the search string "home based business" and clicked the search button on the small internet search. I got disappointed. No listings were under the heading "exact match results" for my search string. It was easy to see that the exact match of the search string wasn't returned. It was blank. I looked at the search results again. The heading "all words exist" was empty too. (Researchers have all results on one continuous page of results on the small search to save additional time.)

These are what were in the section "remaining results," in the order of how many of each type of website result(s) occurred. Titled home based totaled thirty-five websites, those with opportunities reckoned thirteen, and seven were of companies looking for employees and seven for ideas websites. Work from home and make money online both had six website listings in the results. I arrived at five for affiliate business opportunities and Internet marketing. Grouped by heading "legit," Christian, and multi-level-marketing were recognized to all have four websites. The tally for schools showed three and for work at home revealed three. Start a home based business, online home business, resources, entrepreneurs wanted, make money at home, success, build lasting success, online shopping, and how to earn money online were counted for a total of two a piece.

Fifty-one different types of titles had one website each on the very small search's results. Notable websites included ones for inspired to wealth, free card business, forced matrix opportunity, start a blind business, greatest networkers, and online marketing strategies. Practically minded researchers would discern results for building a home based business, business.gov laws and regulations, the Home Based Chamber of Commerce, and the Association of Home Based Business. Green, efoods, judgment recovery, post card marketing, and a home based business network.org website caught my eye. My apologies to the over thirty that had one search result and didn't get listed here.

Observations of the first thirteen pages of tens of millions of results on the very large unnamed search engine were as follows. I had to reduce zoom to fifty percent to see everything on the large search's result page without having to scroll on each page of results. On the first page eight advertisements existed in the right sidebar of the search results. I went to other pages and determined some advertisements in the right sidebar get repeated and some don't. (The advertisements in the sidebar stopped after page fourteen.)

This is the description of the first thirteen pages of results on the very large unnamed search. Pages from search string "home based business" are listed here by abbreviated title. All had home based business in the result, the difference was by type. The largest group of websites was for thirty-one labeled paid advertisements in the results (over 18% of the thirteen pages.) The thirty-one advertisements does not include those that populated the right sidebar. Next largest was opportunities which summed seventeen, home based business enumerated eleven, and ideas corralled six.

Videos cast five, online business figured five, as did work from home. Work at home and blogs about home based business had four each, as reviews recognized three. The types directory, starting, classifieds, multi- level-marketing, home-based, and business insurance tallied two. Forty-eight different types of results turned up in the remainder. I won't list them all here, but will share some unique ones. Article marketing, market your product, resources and information, solutions, and conflict resolutions website type all had one result. Thinking of money couldn't be avoided when seeing website names like wealth from, lucrative, franchises, cash flow, how to make money, and world profit. Specific types limited to one in the first thirteen pages also included some interesting website names like avoid scams, turnkey, legit, mistakes, tax schemes, and numismatic. There was one news result and an online dictionary listing mixed in the results. Serious was part of one website name. I pictured paper when greeting card, business cards, checklist, and guide were part of the website name. Again my apologies to the ones that didn't get listed in this report.

Conclusions found from this study. The data base appears larger, nearly infinite, for the tens of millions of websites for this simple search string. On the other hand, when the data base has the information on the small internet search, it is returned in an expected, usable result. I concede that the information the small one had was probably included in the tens of millions of results of the unnamed large one. Somewhere. Scrolling to see all the results of one page is not time effective if additional pages of results exist like on the very large one. Required reducing zoom to fifty percent was one option to scrolling on each page of the very large unnamed search returns equaling an additional handicap for visually impaired users. The smaller one had one long finite page with three headings for all of the one hundred eighty search results. Advertisements were more than plentiful on the large one but only exist on the home page of the small search. I judge this very large unnamed internet search verses Norele.com (the small one) search almost even.
