Metal Sign Material Introduction - Brass

Metal sign has a variety of materials, each one with its own characteristics. Sichaun Jaguar Sign Experss Co.,Ltd as professional letter and sign manufacturer since 1998 who introduces you the production of metal sign materials - brass.

1. What is brass? Is brass pure copper or copper alloy?
Brass is a copper alloy with zinc as the main alloying element. When only zinc is added to copper, it is called ordinary brass. In ordinary brass, the mechanical properties will change correspondingly with the increase of zinc content. The amount of zinc in general industrial brass does not exceed 47%. When the zinc content is less than 39%, the zinc can be completely dissolved to form a copper-based solid solution, which has good plasticity and is suitable for cold and hot pressure processing. If the zinc content is more than 39%, a solid solution based on the compound CuZn will appear in the structure, so the plasticity drops sharply and the strength increases; if the zinc content is continuously increased, the strength will drop sharply.

2. How is the performance of brass?
Ordinary brass not only has good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and processing properties, but also the price is cheaper than pure copper. It is very textured for making sign. In order to further improve the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of ordinary brass or improve some process performance, the sign manufacturer can add some other alloying elements to form special brass. For example, the addition of lead can improve the machinability and wear resistance of ordinary brass, the corrosion resistance can be improved by adding tin, and the strength, hardness and corrosion resistance can be improved by adding aluminum.
3. How to solve the brass stress corrosion cracking?
Since corrosion is carried out along grain boundaries with uneven stress distribution, brass with a zinc content greater than 20%, such as H68, H62, HPb59-1 etc. After cold working in a humid atmosphere, will cause automatic cracking. The solution is: using low temperature stress relief annealing to prevent stress corrosion and avoid processing or bumping after annealing. In addition, the brass stored for a long time should be fully decomposed by low temperature stress or galvanizing or tin. Note: Brass is best not to be placed in an atmosphere containing ammonia.
